Case IH 518977-02 - VCM – VCM: Vehicle speed anti-tamper checksum disagreement with cluster

Issue description

A data mismatch between the vehicle's control module and the instrument cluster, where the checksum calculated by the control module does not match the checksum expected or provided by the instrument cluster.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 400 AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Check if any aftermarket tuning devices, speed limit bypass modules, or unauthorized software flashes have been installed on the tractor

  2. Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the VCM and the instrument cluster for physical damage that could corrupt data packets

  3. Verify if either the VCM or the Instrument Cluster was recently replaced or updated without syncing the software versions of both modules

Repair steps

  1. Remove aftermarket devices

Remove any aftermarket speed-tampering devices if present.

  2. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST).

  3. Update software

Reflash or update the software on both the VCM and the Instrument Cluster to ensure their checksum algorithms match.

  4. Re-sync modules

Perform a module re-sync or configuration routine so the cluster and VCM recognize each other as secure OEM components.

  5. Replace failed module

If a module has suffered an internal hardware failure preventing it from processing the checksum, that specific module (VCM or Cluster) must be replaced and programmed.
