Case IH 519045-04 - BCM – BCM: ATC Solar Sensor Out of Range Low

The Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) system relies on a solar sensor to measure sunlight intensity to automatically adjust cab fan speed and temperature. An out of range - low condition indicates that the voltage or resistance signal returning from the solar sensor has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically points to a short to ground in the sensor wiring, an open circuit, or an internally failed sensor, causing the climate control system to default to a fixed sunlight value to maintain basic operation.

   Locate the Right Fender Solar Sensor

   Disconnect the 3-pole female electrical connector at the sensor and check for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture intrusion

   Check the wiring harness between the solar sensor and the BCM for continuity, specifically testing for a short to ground on the signal wire

   Ensure the 0.30 - 0.50mm tin-plated terminal pins and cavity plugs are secure and not causing an open circuit

   Disconnect battery

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect battery power to prevent shorting any BCM circuits.

   Access sensor

   Access the right fender solar sensor mounting location and unplug the 3-pole female electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove faulty sensor

   If diagnostic tests confirm the wiring harness is intact and providing the correct reference voltage and ground from the BCM, unclip or unscrew the faulty solar sensor from its mounting bezel.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new OEM solar sensor and reconnect the 3-pole harness.

   Clear codes and test

   Restore battery power, clear the inactive 519045-04 code from the BCM using the diagnostic display, and test the system by setting the cab climate control to AUTO mode in direct sunlight to verify fan speed and temperature adjust correctly.
