Case IH 519046-04 - BCM – BCM: ATC Solar Sensor 2 out of range - low
Issue description
The ATC Solar Sensor 2 voltage signal has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold (typically below 1.5 V DC). This usually points to a short circuit to ground, an open circuit in the wiring, or an internal failure of the sensor itself.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 200
- Magnum 245
- Magnum 280
- Magnum 340
Check the cause
Visually inspect the solar sensor to ensure it is not covered by debris, dirt, or aftermarket accessories, which can prevent correct solar intensity readings.
Check the sensor's circuit for a short to ground or high resistance. A voltage reading of less than 1.5 V DC at the sensor connector confirms the 'low' condition.
Inspect the 3-pole female electrical connector at the sensor for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.
Repair steps
Locate the Sensor
Locate ATC Solar Sensor 2. Depending on the specific cab configuration, this is often designated as the 'Right Fender Solar Sensor' or located on the exterior cab roof/instrument panel.
Disconnect the Harness
Unplug the 3-pole female electrical connector from the sensor.
Inspect and Repair Wiring
Examine the tin-plated terminal pins (0.30 - 0.50mm) inside the connector. If the connector is corroded or the wiring is shorted to ground, splice in a new connector and terminal pins.
Replace the Sensor
If the wiring harness tests good (proper reference voltage and ground are present) but the fault persists, the sensor has failed internally and must be replaced.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the harness, use the cab display or a diagnostic service tool to clear the BCM fault codes, and test the ATC system in direct sunlight to verify the fan speed and temperature adjust automatically.
