Case IH 519056-03 - UCM – UCM: Front hitch position sensor voltage high

The system has detected a 'short circuit to 12V' (or a voltage above normal) on the front hitch position sensor circuit. This means the voltage signal returning from the sensor to the controller is higher than the normal operating range, indicating that the signal wire is either shorted directly to a power source or the sensor has failed internally.

   Inspect the wiring harness (connector X395 or X-527) leading to the front hitch for chafing, pinched wires, or bare spots that could cause the signal wire to short to a 12V power source.

   Disconnect the sensor and test Pin 1 (Sensor Ground) for continuity to ground.

   Test Pin 2 (Position Signal) for a short to 12V power. If 12V is present on this wire while disconnected from the sensor, the harness is shorted.

   Test Pin 3 (V REF) to verify the correct reference voltage is being supplied by the UCM.

   If the wiring harness tests normal (no shorts to power), check the sensor itself, as the internal potentiometer has likely failed and is bleeding reference voltage to the signal return.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the Front Hitch Position Sensor mounted on the front hitch linkage assembly.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Disconnect the 3-pin wiring harness connector (X395/X-527). Unbolt the sensor from its mounting bracket and carefully detach it from the linkage arm.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement OEM Case IH sensor to the bracket and attach the linkage arm. Ensure it is physically centered according to the service manual specifications.

   Reconnect

   Plug the 3-pin wiring harness back into the sensor. Reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Calibration

   You must perform a front hitch calibration after replacing the sensor. Failure to calibrate the new potentiometer will result in a secondary fault code (9006: Front hitch position potentiometer – not calibrated) and the hitch will not operate correctly.
