519056-04 - UCM

Case IH 519056-04 - UCM – UCM: Front hitch position sensor - voltage low

Issue description

The control module is detecting that the signal voltage from the front hitch position sensor (a rotary potentiometer) has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold. This typically indicates an open circuit, a short circuit to ground (0V), or a completely failed sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the sensor, the small connecting linkage rod, and the mounting bracket on the front hitch rockshaft for physical damage, bending, or disconnection.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the front hitch for chafing, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connector.

  3. Verify that the sensor is receiving its 5V Reference supply from the UCM (usually the Orange or designated V-REF wire).

  4. Check the Sensor Ground wire for high resistance.

  5. Check the Position Signal wire (often Green) for continuity back to the UCM and ensure it is not shorted to the ground wire or the tractor chassis.

  6. Ensure the front hitch moves freely and the sensor linkage isn't binding, which could force the potentiometer past its internal stops and damage it.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Lower the front hitch to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure. Turn off the tractor key and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the front hitch position sensor.

  3. Remove Linkage

Remove the M10 circlips (snap rings) securing the small connecting link to the sensor arm and the hitch frame.

  4. Remove Sensor

Remove the three mounting bolts (typically M5 x 45mm hex bolts) and lock nuts securing the sensor to its mounting bracket.

  5. Install New Sensor

Mount the new sensor to the bracket using the M5 hardware. Reattach the connecting linkage using the circlips. Ensure the internal bushing is in place if applicable.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the 3-pin wiring harness back into the sensor.

  7. Calibration

After replacing the sensor, you must perform a Front Hitch Calibration via the tractor's AFS Pro display or diagnostic menu. The UCM needs to learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum voltage values (fully lowered vs. fully raised) to clear the uncalibrated/out-of-range error codes.
