519058-03 - UCM

Case IH 519058-03 - UCM – UCM: Front hitch exterior inching raise switch - high voltage with key on

Issue description

The control module is receiving a continuous "raise" signal from the exterior front hitch switch as soon as the ignition is turned on, which is an abnormal condition usually caused by a physically stuck switch or a short to power in the circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series (250, 280, 310, 340, 380)
  • Case IH Puma series (150, 165, 170, 185, 200, 210, 215, 230)

Check the cause

  1. Check the front hitch exterior inching raise switch for physical damage, debris, or sticking. These switches are exposed to the elements and can easily become jammed with dirt or ice.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness between the exterior switch and the UCM for a short to power.

  3. Inspect the UCM connector and the switch connector for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent pins.

  4. Use the tractor's diagnostic menu (H menu) or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the live state of the switch. If it reads 'Active' or 'High' without being pressed, proceed to circuit testing.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the ignition key switch and remove the key.

Ensure the machine is powered down before beginning work.

  2. Locate the exterior front hitch inching raise switch on the front frame/hitch assembly.

Identify the switch location for testing.

  3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch.

Isolate the switch from the circuit.

  4. Test the Switch.

Use a multimeter to test for continuity across the switch terminals. If the switch shows continuity (closed circuit) while not being pressed, the internal contacts have failed or stuck. The switch must be replaced.

  5. Test the Circuit.

If the switch tests normal (open when released, closed when pressed), the fault lies in the wiring. Trace the harness back to the UCM and repair any chafed wires causing a short to a power source.

  6. Install the new switch or reconnect the repaired harness.

    Restore the physical connections.

  7. Turn the ignition key switch ON and clear the stored fault codes.

Use the H menu (e.g., H8 operation to clear EEPROM fault codes) or the EST to clear the codes.
