Case IH 519068-04 - UCM – UCM: Rear hitch exterior inching switch left voltage low

Issue description

The system is detecting an abnormally low voltage on the circuit dedicated to the left-hand exterior rear fender switch. This is typically caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, water ingress/corrosion inside the switch itself, or a complete failure of the switch's internal contacts.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum Series
  • MX Magnum
  • AFS Connect Magnum
  • Maxxum Series
  • Puma Series
  • Optum Series

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the left rear fender switch for physical damage, cracked rubber boots, or signs of moisture and dirt ingress.

  2. Trace the wiring harness from the left fender switch back to the UCM. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the fender frame, or exposed copper that could be shorting to the chassis ground.

  3. Unplug the switch and inspect the connector for green corrosion or pushed-out pins.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the switch itself for continuity. It should show an open circuit when at rest and continuity only when the rocker/button is actively pressed.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to protect the UCM from voltage spikes.

  2. Access the Switch

Remove the retaining screws holding the switch housing or bezel to the left rear fender.

  3. Disconnect

Carefully pull the switch assembly out and unplug the wiring harness connector.

  4. Install New Part

Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the new switch connector to prevent future moisture ingress. Plug the harness into the new switch.

  5. Reassemble

Seat the switch back into the fender housing and secure the retaining screws.

  6. Test and Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and test the exterior hitch raise/lower function (ensure the tractor is in PARK and the area is clear). Access your display monitor (e.g., Pro 1200) to clear the now "inactive" fault code from the UCM memory.
