Case IH 519071-03 - UCM – UCM: Rear hitch exterior top link switch right voltage high

The control module is detecting a voltage on the right-hand exterior top link switch circuit (located on the rear fender) that exceeds the expected normal operating range. This condition is typically caused by a short to a 12V power source in the wiring harness, an internal short within the switch itself, or an open circuit on a pull-down resistor line.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the right exterior top link switch on the rear fender for physical damage, cracked housing, or water ingress.

   Connector Check: Disconnect the switch and inspect the 3-pin connector for corrosion, pushed-back pins, or moisture.

   Voltage Test: With the key ON and the switch disconnected, probe the signal wire from the UCM to check if it is shorted to a 12V power source.

   Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the rear fender switch back to the UCM. Look for chafing, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to power.

   Switch Continuity: Test the switch itself for proper continuity/resistance when pressed and unpressed to rule out an internal short.

   Disconnect power

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate switch

   Locate the right exterior top link switch on the rear fender housing.

   Disconnect switch

   Disconnect the 3-way electrical connector from the back of the switch.

   Repair wiring

   If the diagnostic tests point to a wiring issue, repair the shorted section of the harness between the fender and the UCM.

   Remove switch

   If the switch failed the continuity test or is physically damaged, remove the retaining clips/screws securing it to the fender and pull the switch out.

   Install new switch

   Insert the replacement switch into the fender housing and secure it.

   Reconnect connector

   Reconnect the electrical connector, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place and the weather seal is seated.

   Restore power

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position.

   Clear fault code

   Use the EST (Electronic Service Tool) or the AFS Pro display to clear the inactive 519071-03 fault code.

    Verify repair

    Test the operation of the rear hitch using the newly installed fender switch to verify the repair.
