Case IH 519073-03 - UCM – UCM: Right Draft Pin Sensor Voltage Above Normal / Shorted to High Source

Issue description

The signal coming from the right draft pin sensor is out of range (voltage is too high). This typically means the sensor is disconnected, there is an open circuit, the wire harness is damaged and shorting to a high-voltage source, or the sensor itself has failed internally.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the right draft pin sensor and its wiring harness for visible damage, focusing on moisture or water intrusion in the wire hole or connector.

  2. Test the wire harness for damaged wires or connectors that could cause a short to a high-voltage source.

  3. Perform continuity and resistance testing across the sensor pins (e.g., Pin A to Pin B, and Pin B to Pin C) to ensure they are within the specified range of 175,000 to 195,000 ohms.

  4. Unplug the connector at the UCM and the sensor to ensure no dirt or water has intruded.

Repair steps

  1. Clean the Area

    Use a wire brush and rust penetrant (like Evapo-Rust) to knock loose any muck around the right draft pin.

  2. Disconnect the Sensor

    Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the right draft pin sensor.

  3. Verify Wiring

    If the wiring harness is damaged, repair the broken/shorted wires. If the wiring tests good, the sensor itself is defective.

  4. Remove and Replace

    Remove the retaining hardware for the right draft pin. (Note: On some aftermarket or replacement pins, the retaining hole may need slight modification if it is too small). Slide the old pin out and install the new draft pin sensor.

  5. Reassembly

    Apply plenty of grease to the mechanical linkages and anti-seize where applicable during reassembly.

  6. Alternative (Delete Kit)

    If draft sensing is not required for your implements, you can install a 'Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit'. This bypasses the draft sensing function completely, preventing the UCM from detecting defective pins and disabling the draft system while keeping standard hitch functions intact.
