Case IH 519073-04 - UCM – UCM: Rear hitch right draft sensor voltage low
Issue description
The signal voltage from the right-hand draft sensor is below normal or shorted to a low source. This causes the hitch to move erratically, fail to hold position, or refuse to respond.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum Series (e.g., Magnum 380 RT CVX, 235, 245, 250, 275, 310, 340)
- Case IH Puma Series (e.g., Puma 165, 180, 195, 210)
- Case IH MX Series (e.g., MX210, MX255, MX275)
Check the cause
Inspect the right draft sensor connector and wiring harness for dirt buildup, water intrusion, or frayed wires
Verify that the sensor is receiving its 5V reference voltage from the UCM
Check for a short-to-ground on the signal wire returning to the UCM
Swap the left and right draft sensors (if they share the same part number) to see if the fault code shifts to the left side (indicating a failed sensor) or stays on the right side (indicating a wiring or UCM fault)
Repair steps
Preparation
Lower the three-point hitch completely to remove any physical load or tension from the lower link arms. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical harness from the right draft sensor pin. Remove the retaining hardware (usually a locking bracket, snap ring, or retaining bolt) holding the pin in the clevis/housing.
Extraction
Slide or drive the old draft sensor pin out of the lower link arm assembly.
Installation
Clean the bore. Insert the new draft sensor pin, ensuring the alignment notch or flat spot is oriented correctly so the sensor measures the load in the proper direction. Reinstall the retaining hardware.
Reconnection
Plug the electrical connector back in.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's in-cab display to clear the fault codes and perform a mandatory hitch calibration cycle. Failing to calibrate the new sensor will result in calibration drift errors and false codes.
Alternative Bypass
If you do not use the draft sensing function for tillage, install an aftermarket Draft Load Sensing Pin Elimination Kit to feed a fixed voltage to the UCM, permanently disabling the draft function and preventing the fault code from returning.
