Case IH 519082-05 - UCM – UCM: Rear hitch lower solenoid - low current / open circuit

The control module is detecting less electrical current than expected on the circuit responsible for activating the rear hitch lowering solenoid. This condition typically points to an open circuit, which can be caused by a disconnected plug, a broken wire in the harness, corroded terminals, or a burned-out solenoid coil.

   Visual Inspection: Locate the rear hitch lower solenoid on the rear hydraulic control valve block. Inspect the wiring harness and the specific connector (designated as X-272) for physical damage, pulled wires, or heavy corrosion.

   Coil Resistance Test: Unplug the connector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil. If it reads 'OL' (open loop) or infinite resistance, the solenoid coil has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Harness Continuity Test: Check the wiring harness from the UCM to the solenoid connector for continuity. Ensure there are no breaks or chafing causing an open circuit.

   Voltage/Signal Test: With the key on and the hitch commanded to lower, check for voltage at the connector to ensure the UCM is sending the signal.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the Valve

   Clean the area around the rear hitch hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Address Wiring Issues (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged connector (X-272), cut back the damaged wire, crimp on new female terminals, and assemble the new 2-pole connector housing.

   Replace the Solenoid (If Applicable)

   If the solenoid coil tested open, remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the valve cartridge. Slide the old coil off and slide the new one on. (If the entire cartridge valve is leaking or sticking, unthread the cartridge from the block and install a new one, torquing to OEM spec).

   Reassemble

   Plug the X-272 connector back into the solenoid.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and operate the rear hitch. Verify that the hitch lowers smoothly and use the diagnostic monitor to clear the inactive 519082-05 code.
