Case IH 519109-04 - UCM – UCM: Trailer brake test switch voltage low

The control module is reading a voltage signal from the trailer brake test switch circuit that has fallen below the minimum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short to ground in the wiring harness, a disconnected plug, or an internal failure of the switch itself.

   Locate the Trailer Brake Test Switch on the C-Pillar control panel inside the cab.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the C-Pillar switch for chafing, pinched wires, or exposed copper that could cause a short to ground.

   Ensure the electrical connector at the back of the rocker switch is fully seated and free of corrosion or bent pins.

   Verify the main harness connections at the Universal Control Module (UCM) to ensure there are no loose pins on the circuit returning from the switch.

   Power down the tractor and turn off the electronic battery isolator.

   This prevents electrical shorts during repair.

   Carefully remove the trim/bezel on the C-Pillar.

   This provides access to the rear of the control elements.

   Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the trailer brake test switch.

   Splice and repair the affected section of the harness using OEM-approved heat-shrink connectors.

   Perform this if the wiring is damaged (shorted to ground).

   Remove the faulty rocker switch from the C-Pillar panel and snap the replacement switch into place.

   Perform this if the wiring is intact, as the switch has likely failed internally.

   Reconnect the electrical harness to the new switch.

   Reinstall the C-Pillar trim.

   Restore battery power, turn the key on, and verify that the 519109-04 fault code has moved from 'Active' to 'Inactive' (or cleared entirely).

   Test the trailer brake function to confirm the repair.
