519116-03 - VCM

Case IH 519116-03 - VCM – VCM: Transmission control lever C2 - position signal voltage high

Issue description

The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the C2 transmission control lever's position sensor/potentiometer that exceeds the normal operating range, typically indicating a short to power (12V) in the circuit or a failed internal sensor.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect
  • Case IH Steiger

Check the cause

  1. Test battery voltage (should be 12 to 14 volts). If abnormally high, test the alternator output to determine if it is overcharging the system.

  2. Check for an external power supply shorted to the controller power supply. With the key in the ON position, check for approximately 12 volts at cavity 12 of the controller connector (e.g., connector C058).

  3. Measure the voltage at the Forward/Neutral/Reverse/Park (FNRP) module. Verify the transmission control lever is properly registering in Park, Neutral, Forward, or Reverse, and check the B+ circuit from the FNRP module for open circuits or shorts.

  4. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the C2 transmission control lever to the VCM for any rubbed wires shorting to a 12V source.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare the Machine

Park the machine on level ground. Place the transmission control lever in NEUTRAL or PARK, engage the parking brake switch, and shut the engine OFF.

  2. Lockout/Tagout

Place a "Do Not Operate" tag on the ignition key switch and steering wheel.

  3. Remove the Lever

Remove the fasteners securing the transmission control lever to the steering column or armrest console. Carefully separate the lever from the mounting base.

  4. Disconnect Harness

Tag and disconnect the wire harness from the transmission control lever and diagnostic display.

  5. Install New Part

Connect the harness to the replacement transmission control lever and secure it with the original fasteners.

  6. Perform Clutch/Transmission Calibration

Move the transmission control lever to FWD. The display will read ODD mA and automatically run through the clutch calibration. After calibrating all clutches, the display will read MSTR mA. Push the PROG key once. The display will read EXIT CAL. Reduce the engine speed to low idle. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. The calibration will be saved when the tractor is shut down.
