Case IH 519117-03 - VCM – VCM: High voltage in the C3 transmission control lever position signal

The control module is receiving a voltage reading from the "C3" position sensor circuit of the transmission control lever that exceeds the normal operating range (typically a short to power or an open ground circuit).

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the MultiControl armrest (transmission control lever) to the VCM for pinched wires, chafing, or damaged connector pins.

   Check the 5V reference and ground circuits at the transmission control lever connector. A loss of ground to the sensor will often cause the signal wire to float to a high voltage state.

   Disconnect the lever and the VCM, then test the C3 signal wire for continuity to a 12V power source to check for a short to power.

   If the wiring is intact, use a multimeter or a dealer diagnostic tool (EST) to monitor the C3 lever position voltage while moving the transmission lever. If the voltage remains stuck high or spikes erratically, the sensor inside the lever has failed.

   Park the tractor on a flat, level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the battery master disconnect switch to prevent accidental machine movement or electrical shorts.

   Remove the access panels on the MultiControl armrest to expose the transmission control lever mounting and electrical connectors.

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the transmission control lever assembly.

   If diagnostic tests proved the sensor/lever is faulty, unbolt the transmission control lever assembly from the armrest console.

   Install the new transmission control lever assembly and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector lock is fully seated.

   Reassemble the armrest console panels and turn the battery disconnect switch back on.

   Turn the key on and clear the inactive fault codes. Perform a transmission/lever calibration via the AFS Pro display or dealer Electronic Service Tool (EST) so the VCM can learn the new lever's neutral, forward, and reverse voltage parameters.

   Calibration is required after replacing the lever assembly.
