Case IH 519118-03 - VCM – VCM: R1 transmission control lever position signal voltage high
Issue description
The controller is receiving a voltage signal from the transmission control lever's R1 position sensor that exceeds the maximum expected threshold. This typically indicates a short to power (12V) in the signal circuit, an open ground circuit, or a failed internal potentiometer/sensor within the control handle.

Check the cause
Check if other transmission lever position codes are active (such as 519115-03 for C1, 519116-03 for C2, or 519120-03 for R3). Multiple 'voltage high' codes indicate a shared open ground or a failed 5V reference circuit rather than a failed handle.
Inspect the wiring harness beneath the armrest console. Check the connector going to the Multi-Function Handle (MFH) for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or wire chafing.
Disconnect the MFH and use a multimeter to test the signal wire between the handle connector and the VCM for a short to a 12V power source.
Verify that the ground circuit at the MFH connector has good continuity to the chassis ground. An open ground will cause the sensor signal to float high.
Repair steps
Park the tractor on a level surface, place the transmission in PARK, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.
Ensure the machine is safely parked and powered down before beginning repairs.
Remove the trim panels on the armrest console to access the mounting hardware for the Multi-Function Handle.
This provides access to the handle's mounting and electrical connections.
Carefully disconnect the main electrical harness connector from the bottom of the MFH.
Disconnect the wiring harness from the faulty handle.
Remove the retaining screws/bolts securing the handle to the armrest base and lift the faulty handle out.
Unbolt and remove the defective Multi-Function Handle.
Install the replacement Multi-Function Handle and secure the mounting hardware.
Place the new handle into position and bolt it down.
Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.
Securely connect the wiring harness to the new handle.
Reinstall the armrest trim panels and reconnect the battery.
Reassemble the armrest console and restore power to the tractor.
Turn the key to the ON position and use the AFS Pro display to clear the VCM fault codes.
Clear the active and stored fault codes from the Vehicle Control Module.
Perform a calibration of the new Multi-Function Handle / transmission lever via the display's diagnostic toolbox menu.
This ensures the VCM learns the new potentiometer voltage sweeps.
