Case IH 519119-03 - VCM – VCM: R2 transmission control lever position signal voltage high

The signal voltage coming from the R2 position sensor circuit inside the transmission control lever (shuttle lever) is higher than the normal operating range. This condition is typically caused by a short to power in the wiring, an open ground circuit, or an internal failure of the lever's position sensor.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the steering column transmission control lever and the VCM for pinched wires, chafing, or corrosion at the connector pins.

   Verify the ground connection to the transmission control lever. An open or high-resistance ground will cause the sensor's signal voltage to float high.

   Using a multimeter, probe the R2 signal wire to ensure it is not shorted to a 5V reference or 12V power source.

   If the wiring harness, reference voltage, and ground are all intact and within specification, the internal R2 sensor of the transmission control lever has failed and the lever assembly must be replaced.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the ignition.

   Remove the Steering Wheel

   Carefully remove the center cap and the main retaining nut, then pull the steering wheel off the splined shaft to gain access to the column.

   Remove the Steering Column Covers

   Take off the plastic shrouds/covers surrounding the steering column to expose the switch assemblies.

   Disconnect the Harness

   Locate the wiring harness connected to the transmission control lever assembly and carefully disconnect it.

   Remove the Faulty Lever

   Unbolt the mounting hardware holding the gear selector assembly to the column and remove the old unit.

   Install the New Lever

   Mount the new transmission control lever switch into position and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the wiring harness, reinstall the steering column covers, and securely reinstall the steering wheel.

   Test

   Turn the key on, clear the inactive 519119-03 fault code from the VCM, and test the forward/reverse shuttle operation to ensure the issue is resolved.
