Case IH 519119-04 - VCM – VCM: R2 transmission control lever position signal voltage is low

The signal voltage returning from the transmission control lever's position sensor has dropped below the acceptable operating threshold, indicating a voltage below normal, an open circuit, or a short to ground.

   Check system voltage at the battery (should be 12 to 14 volts) and test alternator output if low, as low voltage can cause false transmission controller codes.

   Monitor controller voltage ('ARMREST BATTERY VOLTAGE' or 'TRANS BATTERY VOLTAGE') using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or the tractor's onboard diagnostic monitor.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the transmission control lever (on the armrest/Multicontroller) and the VCM for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or loose connector pins.

   Test the circuit at the control lever sensor connector with the key ON for proper reference voltage (5V or 12V) and check for continuity to ground on the ground circuit.

   Park the tractor on a level surface, place the transmission control lever in the PARK or NEUTRAL position, and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Access the transmission control lever assembly.

   Depending on the model, this requires removing the fasteners securing the armrest console covers or the steering column trim.

   Tag and disconnect the electrical wire harness connector from the transmission control lever position sensor.

   If diagnostic tests revealed a wiring fault, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector pigtail.

   If the wiring is intact but the sensor has failed internally (causing the low voltage signal), remove the mounting hardware and replace the transmission control lever assembly / position sensor.

   Reinstall the lever assembly and securely reconnect the electrical harness.

   Reassemble the armrest or console trim panels.

   Reconnect the battery.

    Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the logged 519119-04 fault code from the VCM.

    Perform a transmission calibration procedure.

    This involves bringing the hydraulic oil to operating temperature (54° to 57°C) and using the EST or onboard display to run the automated clutch and valve calibration steps.
