519163-03 - VCM

Case IH 519163-03 - VCM – VCM: ISOBUS automation switch voltage high

Issue description

The control module is detecting a higher-than-expected voltage on the ISOBUS automation switch circuit, typically caused by a short-to-power in the wiring harness or an internal short within the switch itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series tractors (e.g., Magnum 400 AFS Connect, Tier 3)
  • Case IH Flagship Axial-Flow Combines (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 series)

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Locate the ISOBUS automation switch (often located on the armrest console or as a dedicated ISOBUS Shortcut Button/ISB). Inspect the switch connector for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

  2. Circuit Testing (Short to Power): Disconnect the switch. Using a multimeter, check the signal wire running from the switch connector to the VCM for a short to a 12V power source.

  3. Switch Testing: Test the internal resistance and continuity of the ISOBUS automation switch to ensure it has not failed internally, bridging the power and signal contacts.

  4. VCM Pin Check: Verify the voltage at the VCM pin to ensure the module itself is not outputting an incorrect reference voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Power down machine

Power down the machine and turn off the battery disconnect switch.

  2. Remove trim panels

Remove the trim panels on the armrest or side console to access the rear of the ISOBUS automation switch.

  3. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch.

  4. Repair wiring harness

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short-to-power in the wiring harness, trace the wire back to the VCM, locate the chafed or melted section of the wire, and repair/splice the harness as per OEM electrical standards.

  5. Replace switch

If the wiring harness tests good, the fault lies within the switch. Remove the retaining clips or mounting screws and extract the faulty switch.

  6. Install new switch

Install the new ISOBUS automation switch and reconnect the harness.

  7. Clear fault codes

Restore battery power, turn the key to the ON position, and use the AFS Pro display to clear the inactive fault codes.

  8. Verify engagement

Press the top of the Automation switch to verify engagement (an "A" icon should display on the monitor) and ensure the 519163-03 code does not return.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • ISOBUS Automation Switch / ISOBUS Shortcut Button (ISB)

If the machine utilizes a universal external ISOBUS Shortcut Button (ISB) rather than an integrated armrest switch, aftermarket AEF-certified options like the Fliegl ISB are also compatible with the Case IH ISOBUS terminal.

  • Case IH Rocker Switch

    47806309

    Commonly used for console controls

  • Bale Presence Switch for VC Automation (ISOBUS Class 3)
