Case IH 519572-07 - UCM – UCM: Steering valve controller calibration fault

Issue description

The control module has detected that the autoguidance steering valve has not been successfully calibrated, has lost its calibration parameters, or a recent calibration attempt failed to complete within the acceptable deadzone limits.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum Series (260, 280, 340, AFS Connect)
  • Puma Series
  • Steiger Series
  • Axial-Flow Combines (Mid Range and Flagship)

Check the cause

  1. Check hydraulic fluid temperature to ensure it is at normal operating temperature (cold oil is the most common cause of calibration failure).

  2. Verify the steering cylinder rod length is physically measured and within 1/4 inch on both sides (perform a Rear Wheel Position calibration first if necessary).

  3. Check for active ISOBUS communication faults or Wheel Angle Sensor faults (e.g., 3683-19, 3683-02, or 520199-09) that prevent calibration.

  4. Inspect the CAN bus connections and the harness at the steering valve and the UCM for damage or loose pins.

Repair steps

  1. Warm hydraulic oil

Start the vehicle and drive it in a wide-open area to warm the hydraulic oil to normal operating temperature.

  2. Navigate to calibration menu

On the display, navigate to TOOLBOX > CALIBRATION > CALIBR.

  3. Select calibration type

Select the Steering Valve Calibration (or Automated Steering Deadzone).

  4. Run Auto Cal wizard

Follow the on-screen Auto Cal wizard. Caution: The wheels will move abruptly and the vehicle will turn itself during this process. Ensure the area is clear.

  5. Allow calibration to complete

The system will perform one coarse calibration followed by three fine calibrations.

  6. Verify fault code clears

Once the display confirms the calibration is saved, cycle the key power and verify that fault code 519572-07 changes to inactive or clears.

  7. Replace steering valve if calibration fails

If the calibration repeatedly fails despite warm oil and correct geometry, the steering valve or its internal solenoids have likely failed and require replacement.
