Case IH 519573-11 - UCM – UCM: Steering valve controller calibration fault

Issue description

The steering valve controller has failed its calibration process, has an incorrect configuration, or has encountered a calibration checksum error.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum 400 AFS Connect
  • Magnum 180
  • Magnum 200
  • Magnum 220
  • Magnum 240
  • Magnum 250
  • Magnum 280
  • Magnum 310
  • Magnum 340
  • Magnum 380

Check the cause

  1. Check Steering Valve Controller Configuration: Verify that the controller is configured correctly for the specific tractor model.

  2. Check Wheel Angle Sensor Calibration: A failed steering valve calibration is often tied to an incorrect CAN wheel angle sensor calibration, data values being out of range, or a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) failure.

  3. Verify EEPROM Data: Check for incorrect configuration of EEPROM data which can cause the valve calibration checksum to fail.

  4. Check for Concurrent Faults: Ensure there are no active faults for high/low current on the steering auxiliary solenoids (e.g., codes 518585-05, 518586-06) which could prevent successful calibration.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH diagnostic service tool to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Access UCM configuration

Access the UCM and navigate to the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) configuration menu.

  3. Calibrate Wheel Angle Sensor

Perform a Wheel Angle Sensor calibration.

  4. Calibrate Steering Valve Controller

Once the wheel angle sensor is successfully calibrated and the data values are within range, initiate the Steering Valve Controller calibration.

  5. Re-flash controllers

If the calibration fails with a checksum error or EEPROM data error, re-flash the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) with the latest software and dataset.

  6. Replace hardware

If software flashing and calibration repeatedly fail, the physical Steering Valve Controller or Steering Sensor must be replaced.
