Case IH 519573-31 - UCM – UCM: Steering valve controller calibration fault
Issue description
The electro-hydraulic steering valve has either failed its internal calibration routine, lost its deadzone parameters, or is reading data that conflicts with the tractor's current speed.

Check the cause
Check hydraulic fluid temperature to ensure it is at normal operating temperature (cold oil will cause calibration to fail)
Inspect the LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) sensor connection directly on the hydraulic steering valve
Verify the physical condition and linkage of the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) located in the articulation hinge or front axle
Check the display (Diagnostics > Versions) for the current software versions of the UCM and Steering Valve Controller (SVC)
Repair steps
Warm Up the Tractor
Run the tractor until the hydraulic oil reaches standard operating temperature.
Prepare for Calibration
Move the machine to a wide-open area with field conditions similar to standard operation.
Calibrate the Wheel Angle Sensor
Access the display (e.g., Pro 700 or Pro 1200). Go to TOOLBOX > CALIBRATION > CALIBR. Drive in a straight line and press OK to save the rear wheel/steering position. Verify that both steering cylinder rods are within ¼” length of each other.
Perform Steering Valve Deadzone Calibration
In the same calibration menu, initiate the steering valve deadzone calibration. It is recommended to use the 'Auto Cal' automatic process, though a manual 'Automated Steering Deadzone' method can also be used. Caution: The wheels will move abruptly during the proportional gain calibration.
Flash/Update Software
If the calibration repeatedly fails or the tractor wanders off-line, the UCM and SVC software must be updated by a dealer.
Replace Hardware
If software updates and calibrations do not clear the fault, the physical steering angle sensor or the electro-hydraulic steering valve itself is internally faulty and must be replaced.
