Case IH 52 – Transmission Controller (TRANS / TCU): The Park Brake is stuck on by no electrical power supplied when commanded on
Issue description
The transmission controller is commanding the park brake to release, but the circuit is failing to deliver power. Because the system is designed to fail-safe, the mechanical park brake remains engaged (stuck on). This is typically caused by a blown fuse, a failed relay, a wiring short/open circuit, or a cracked/failed park brake solenoid coil.

Check the cause
Check the Transmission Display: With the tractor running, move the transmission control lever to the park position. The 'P' icon should be displayed on the gear display. If it does not illuminate, the failure may be in the park circuit between the lever and the transmission controller.
Inspect the Fuses: Check the fuse dedicated to the park brake and neutral relays (Fuse #39). If the fuse is blown, check the wiring between the fuse and the relays for a short to ground.
Test the Relays: Locate the Park Brake Relay (Relay #12 or #16) and the Neutral Relay (Relay #17). Swap the Park Brake Relay with a known good relay of the same type. If the fault clears, the relay was the culprit.
Verify Voltage at the Relay: Unplug the Neutral/Park relay and turn the key ON. Check for constant 12V power and ground at the relay cavity (e.g., cavity 3). If 12V is missing, trace the circuit back to the fuse panel.
Inspect the Solenoid Coil: Visually inspect the park brake solenoid on the side of the transmission. Look for a cracked plastic housing on the solenoid coil, which breaks the internal circuit.

Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a flat surface, turn off the engine, and securely chock the wheels.
Relay/Fuse Replacement
If your diagnostic checks isolated a blown fuse or a bad relay, replace the faulty component in the cab fuse panel. Clear the codes and test operation.
Wiring Repair
If Fuse #39 repeatedly blows, trace the wiring harness from the cab down to the transmission solenoid. Look for pinch points or chafed wires shorting against the tractor chassis. Splice and heat-shrink any damaged wires.
Solenoid Replacement
Disconnect the 2-pin electrical connector from the park brake solenoid valve on the transmission. Unthread the retaining nut holding the electromagnetic coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off and slide the new OEM coil on. Torque the retaining nut to spec (do not overtighten) and reconnect the wiring harness.
Clear Codes and Test
Use the instrumentation panel or a service tool to clear Fault Code 52. Start the tractor and cycle the transmission lever out of Park to verify the brake releases and no codes return.
