Case IH 520192-13 - UCM – UCM: Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) is out of range and requires calibration
Issue description
The system detects that the analog input voltage from the steering wheel angle sensor is outside of its expected normal operating parameters (e.g., detecting an above-normal voltage). The code typically becomes active when the total steering angle is obtained but the system cannot validate the position due to a lack of calibration.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS series tractors
- Magnum 260 AFS
- Steiger tractors equipped with AFS Connect
Check the cause
Check the wiring harness connection to the steering wheel angle sensor (located on the left side of the tractor near the steering axle/air cleaner canister) for pinched wires or a short to power/ground.
Ensure the sensor linkage and rod lengths are physically intact, not bent, and securely mounted to the steering axle.
Ensure the tractor is in 'off-road mode', as the steering system will not engage or calibrate properly in road mode.
Repair steps
Boot up display
Turn on the tractor and allow the Pro 1200 display (or equivalent AFS display) to boot up.
Navigate to calibration screen
Navigate to the ISOBus diagnostic page / Calibration screen via the 'Menu' icon.
Select Steering calibration
Select 'Steering' (or Direção in Portuguese manuals) from the calibration options.
Calibrate Wheel Angle Sensor
Follow the on-screen guided procedure to sweep the steering axle fully left and fully right to set the Wheel Angle Sensor limits.
Select Steering Valve calibration
Once the WAS calibration is successful, use the drop-down menu on the same screen to select 'Steering Valve' (or Válvula da Direção).
Calibrate Steering Valve
Complete the automated steering valve calibration.
Verify system status
Restart the system and verify the status cake icon on the display turns green, indicating the steering system is ready and the fault code is cleared.
