Case IH 520195-01 - VCM – UCM / VCM: Device temperature low

The internal temperature sensor within the control module is registering a temperature that is below the acceptable minimum operating threshold.

   Verify if the tractor is operating in extreme cold conditions. If the machine has been sitting in sub-zero temperatures, the module may simply need time to warm up to normal operating parameters.

   Connect the Case IH EST to diagnostic connector 1. Monitor the live internal temperature data of the UCM/VCM to see if the reading is plausible or if it is reading an impossible default value (which indicates a failed internal sensor).

   Inspect the main wiring harness connectors going to the UCM/VCM (specifically connectors CN2A, CN2B, CN3B, and CN4B) for moisture, corrosion, or pin damage that could cause erratic sensor logic.

   Prepare machine

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate module

   Locate the UCM/VCM module.

   Disconnect harnesses

   Carefully disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the module.

   Remove faulty module

   Remove the mounting hardware and extract the faulty UCM/VCM.

   Install replacement module

   Install the replacement UCM/VCM and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect power and harnesses

   Reconnect the wiring harnesses and restore battery power.

   Configure new module

   Connect the EST. You must configure the new UCM module to the tractor's specific systems.

   Perform system calibrations

   Perform all required system calibrations tied to the UCM. For example, OEM manuals note that replacing or resetting this module requires recalibrating the wheel angle sensors (which requires driving the tractor at a maximum speed of 3.2 km/h / 2.0 mph) and configuring the AST steering valves.
