Case IH 520198-06 - VCM – VCM: Cut-off solenoid supply circuit abnormally high current or short-circuited to ground
Issue description
The system's digital output (DOUT) detects that the electrical load connected to the cut-off solenoid is too high (drawing greater than 2.5 Amps) or that the circuit is short-circuited to ground.

Check the cause
Check the wiring harness connected to the cut-off solenoid's digital output (DOUT) for a short circuit to ground (GND).
Verify the electrical load of the solenoid. An excessively high draw (greater than 2.5 Amps) usually points to an internally shorted solenoid coil.
Verify the off-road safety check status. If this check fails due to the high current/short, electro-hydraulic steering will be disabled.
Repair steps
Locate solenoid
Locate the cut-off solenoid on the electrohydraulic steering valve assembly.
Inspect wiring and connectors
Disconnect the solenoid and inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the VCM and the cut-off solenoid for any signs of damage, chafing, or a direct short to ground.
Test wiring harness
Test the wiring harness independently of the solenoid to determine if the short to ground is in the wiring.
Repair wiring
If the wiring is shorted to ground, repair or replace the affected section of the harness.
Replace solenoid
If the wiring tests good, the issue is an internal short within the solenoid itself causing it to draw more than the 2.5A limit. Remove and replace the faulty cut-off solenoid.
