Case IH 520211-12 - VCM – VCM: Steering valve controller circuit fault, over voltage
Issue description
FMI 12 indicates a 'Bad intelligent device or component.' The Danfoss PVED-CLS controller 'Overvoltage supervisor Self-test failed,' which is a severe internal hardware failure within the steering controller.

Check the cause
Check the wiring harness between the VCM/UCM and the steering valve controller for rubbed wires that could be causing a short-to-power (high voltage source).
Verify that the machine's charging system is not overcharging and that the supply voltage reaching the steering valve connector is within the normal 12V operating range.
If the external harness and supply voltage test normal, the fault is isolated to an internal hardware failure of the steering valve controller.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery power
Disconnect battery power to the machine to prevent electrical arcing.
Disconnect wiring harness
Disconnect the wiring harness from the steering valve controller (PVED-CLS actuator).
Remove faulty controller
Unbolt and remove the faulty PVED-CLS controller from the EHi electrohydraulic steering valve body.
Mount new controller
Mount the new service part (PVED-CLS controller) to the steering valve.
Reconnect harness and power
Reconnect the wiring harness and restore battery power.
Perform safety validation and calibration
Use the PLUS+1® service tool (or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool - EST) to read out the identification data, ensure the correct firmware is loaded, and perform an auto-calibration of the steering valve so the VCM recognizes the new module.
