Case IH 520214-02 - VCM – VCM: Internal failure in the steering valve controller

The controller is experiencing an internal logic/hardware failure or is receiving conflicting state commands regarding road transport mode versus field steering mode.

   Test the road travel switch for proper operation and ensure it is not sticking or sending a conflicting signal to the VCM.

   Check the presence and correct connection of the VCM to the CAN network.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the VCM and the steering valve controller for short circuits, broken wires, or undervoltage.

   Check the current software version of the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and the Steering Redundant Controller (SRC) via the diagnostic tool.

   Inspect and clean connectors

   Disconnect the harnesses at the VCM and the steering valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and ensure no pins are pushed back or corroded.

   Test the road switch

   Toggle the road switch while monitoring the state in the diagnostic service tool. If the switch state does not change or shows an implausible state, replace the switch.

   Update controller software

   Flash the VCM and Steering Valve Controller to the latest OEM software release. Update the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) to software version 2.02 to resolve logic and configuration issues.

   Replace the steering valve controller

   If the wiring is intact, the road switch is functioning, and the software update does not clear the 520214-02 internal fault, the steering valve controller hardware has suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.
