Case IH 520215-25 - VCM – VCM: Internal failure in the flow command of the steering valve controller

Internal software or hardware failure within the steering valve controller regarding its flow command. The system's main and safety controllers perform a flow command crosscheck; if this crosscheck fails, data exceeds the buffer length, or there is a software interpolation/initialization failure, the system flags an internal error and will likely disable automated steering functions for safety.

   Verify Software and Communication: check for software I2C communication failures or software initialization failures within the VCM.

   Crosscheck Verification: Use the dealer diagnostic tool to monitor the flow command crosscheck between the steering valve's main and safety controllers.

   Firmware Update: Before replacing hard parts, verify if there is a software update available for the VCM, as software interpolation overflow/underflow or division by zero errors can sometimes be patched via an ECU re-flash.

   Wiring/Voltage Drop Test: Ensure the VCM and steering valve are receiving proper voltage, as low voltage can cause internal module crosscheck failures.

   Safely park the machine on level ground and relieve all hydraulic system pressure.

   Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts to the VCM harness.

   Disconnect the electrical harness connectors from the steering valve controller.

   Mark and cap all hydraulic lines connected to the steering valve to prevent contamination.

   Unbolt and remove the faulty steering valve assembly.

   Install the new steering valve and torque mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the VCM electrical harnesses.

   Reconnect the battery, top off hydraulic fluid, and bleed the steering system.

   Connect the dealer diagnostic tool to clear the 520215-25 fault code and perform the mandatory steering valve calibration/initialization procedure.
