Case IH 520219-25 - VCM – VCM: Steering valve controller steering control disagreement
Issue description
The steering valve controller is detecting a mismatch between the commanded steering angle and the actual physical feedback provided by the wheel angle sensor (WAS), or there is a communication/configuration failure between the steering valve and the sensor.
Applies to these machines
11 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect 180
- Magnum AFS Connect 200
- Magnum AFS Connect 220
- Magnum AFS Connect 240
- Magnum AFS Connect 250
- Magnum AFS Connect 280
- Magnum AFS Connect 310
- Magnum AFS Connect 340
- Magnum AFS Connect 380
- Magnum AFS Connect 400
Check the cause
Power off the vehicle before working around the steering axle to prevent sudden movement and severe injury
Locate and inspect the Wheel Angle Sensor (WAS) and its harness connection (often on the left side of the tractor)
Verify the correct WAS adapter cable is installed for the specific axle configuration
Access the cab display (e.g., Pro 700 or AFS Connect monitor) and check for coarse WAS readings during the steering calibration process
Check the software versions on the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) and the Advanced Steering Configuration controller dataset to ensure they are up to date and not corrupted
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Turn off the tractor and ensure the steering axle is physically secured.
Physical Inspection
Inspect the wheel angle sensor, the mechanical linkage rod lengths, and the wiring harness for physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
Harness/Cable Correction
If the WAS adapter cable is incorrect, damaged, or failing to provide a consistent signal, replace or modify the cable as per the specific steering-ready installation manual.
Sensor Replacement
If the wiring is intact but the sensor fails to read correctly during a multimeter sweep or display check, replace the Wheel Angle Sensor.
System Calibration
After replacing any physical parts or adjusting rod lengths, perform a full steering calibration using the tractor's display to synchronize the steering valve controller with the new wheel angle sensor parameters.
Software Flash
If the physical components are functioning but the disagreement code persists, the Steering Valve Controller (SVC) may require a software re-flash or replacement by a dealer.
