520231-25

Case IH 520231-25 – Danfoss PVED-CLS Steering Controller: Auxiliary steering device Joystick position crosscheck, Signal crosscheck failed.

Issue description

This fault code indicates a cross-check failure within the auxiliary steering joystick's redundant safety monitoring system. It triggers if the flow request deviation is too high between primary and redundant signals, transmit rates deviate too much, or software parameters P3368 & P3369 do not match the installed joystick.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum
  • Steiger
  • Optum
  • Puma

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the auxiliary steering joystick and the PVED-CLS controller for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause signal degradation or transmit rate issues.

  2. Using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or Danfoss PLUS+1 service tool, monitor the primary and redundant signal outputs from the joystick to verify if one signal is dropping out or lagging behind the other.

  3. Verify that the steering controller parameters P3368 and P3369 are correctly configured for the specific auxiliary joystick installed on the machine.

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Clear the fault code and cycle the key. Operate the auxiliary joystick to see if the code returns immediately (hard fault) or intermittently.

  2. Wiring Repair

If the diagnostic checks reveal a wiring issue (e.g., high resistance or a short to ground on one of the redundant signal wires), repair or replace the affected section of the joystick harness.

  3. Software Configuration

If the joystick was recently replaced or the controller was flashed, use the service tool to correct parameters P3368 and P3369 to match the hardware.

  4. Component Replacement

If the wiring is intact and the parameters are correct, the internal potentiometers/sensors in the joystick are failing the redundancy cross-check. The auxiliary joystick must be replaced.

  5. Post-Repair Calibration

After replacing the joystick, perform a full steering system calibration to ensure the PVED-CLS controller recognizes the new component's dead-bands and trim values.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Auxiliary Steering Joystick

    Replaces the failing input device.

  • Danfoss PVED-CLS Steering Controller

If the controller itself is found to be internally faulty and failing to process the signals, though this is rare compared to joystick failure.

  • Steering Harness / CAN Jumper

Required if the wiring between the armrest and the steering valve is damaged.
