Case IH 520234-14 - VCM – UCM/VCM: Incorrect controller configuration
Issue description
The module's Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) contains corrupted, missing, or mismatched configuration data. It triggers when the software settings programmed into the controller do not align with the physical hardware installed on the machine, or if the memory has defaulted due to a voltage drop or botched software update.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect Tractors
- Steiger AFS Connect Tractors
- Puma Series Tractors
- Axial-Flow Flagship Combines (7240/8240/9240, 7250/8250/9250)
- Early Riser 2000 Series Planters
Check the cause
Check battery voltage to ensure the system voltage is not dropping below 9.8V during cranking or operation, as low voltage is a primary cause of UCM NVM corruption.
Inspect wiring for poor power supply or ground connections directly at the UCM/VCM harness.
Review service history to determine if the UCM NVM was inadvertently cleared or corrupted during a recent software update or implement swap.
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the current configuration settings of the module against the machine's actual physical build.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic tool
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Access configuration
Navigate to the UCM/VCM configuration screen on the service tool.
Flash software
Reinstall or flash the latest UCM software using the EST to ensure the baseline programming is uncorrupted.
Reconfigure settings
Manually reconfigure the controller settings to match the machine's specific hardware options (for example, if a grid heater is present, change the setting on line 21 to "Installed").
Save settings
Save the new settings to the module's Non-Volatile Memory.
Test operation
Cycle the key (restart the machine) and test the operation to see if the fault code clears.
Replace module
If the code returns immediately or the module refuses to accept the configuration, the internal NVM of the UCM is physically faulty, and the module must be replaced.
