Case IH 520235-14 - VCM – VCM: Incorrect controller configuration
Issue description
Configuration parameters stored in the controller's memory do not match the physical hardware installed on the machine. This typically happens after a new accessory is installed, or if the module was recently replaced/flashed and not properly configured.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect
- Case IH Steiger AFS Connect
Check the cause
Verify if any new hardware or accessories were recently installed on the tractor (e.g., rear window defroster/grid heater, optional rear hitch, or PTO components).
Check if the VCM/UCM was recently replaced, updated, or flashed. A blank or default module will throw this code until it is configured to the machine's specific Product Identification Number (PIN).
Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the CAN1/ISOBUS diagnostic connector to read the current configuration settings and identify which specific parameter is mismatched.
Repair steps
Prepare machine
Park the tractor on a hard, level surface, place the transmission in park, and apply the parking brake.
Connect EST
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to Diagnostic Connector 2 (CAN1/ISOBUS) located in the cab.
Power up modules
Turn the tractor's key switch to the ON position to power up the modules.
Access configuration menu
Open the EST software. On the toolbar, select the Configuration menu, and then select General Configuration.
Review UCM/VCM settings
Review the configuration settings for the UCM/VCM. The EST will display a table of parameters (e.g., modem mode, hitch options, grid heater status).
Update mismatched parameter
Identify the mismatched parameter. For example, if a rear window grid heater was recently installed, navigate to line 21 and change the setting from 'Not Installed' to 'Installed'. If an optional rear hitch was added, update the hitch configuration accordingly.
Save configuration
Save the new configuration settings to the VCM.
Restart tractor
Turn the key off, wait for the modules to power down completely, and restart the tractor.
Verify repair
Verify that fault code 520235-14 has cleared and test the operation of the newly configured component.
Parts you might need
