Case IH 520236-14 - VCM – UCM / VCM: Incorrect controller configuration
Issue description
This condition occurs when the control module's programmed software parameters do not match the physical hardware/options installed on the tractor, when the module has lost its configuration memory, or when a blank/new replacement module has been installed but not yet programmed.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect Series (Models 250, 280, 310, 340, 380, 400)
- Steiger AFS Connect Series
- Puma Series (Models 140, 150, 165, 175)
- Quadtrac Series
Check the cause
Verify Hardware Changes: Check if any new hardware, sensors, or modules were recently installed on the tractor that would conflict with the current UCM configuration.
Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for other active CAN-Bus communication faults (e.g., 520228-22 or 520586-03) which might indicate a wiring issue rather than a pure configuration loss.
EST Connection: Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to diagnostic connector 1.
Read Configuration: Access the UCM/VCM menu to read the current configuration parameters and software version (e.g., UCM APP software version 16.2.0.0) to see if the data is corrupted or blank.
Repair steps
Connect EST
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Navigate to menu
Navigate to the UCM/VCM programming and configuration menu.
Perform configuration
Perform the module configuration procedure to push the correct vehicle configuration file to the module. This file must match the tractor's specific Product Identification Number (PIN) and factory options.
Update software
If a software update is available for the UCM, flash the latest software payload to the controller.
Cycle power
Cycle the tractor's key power, allow the CAN network to initialize, and re-check for active fault codes.
Replace module
If the UCM refuses to accept the configuration, drops the configuration upon rebooting, or suffers from an internal hardware failure, the UCM/VCM assembly must be physically replaced and then programmed from scratch.
