Case IH 520241-02 - VCM – UCM/VCM: Incorrect controller configuration
Issue description
The software configuration parameters programmed into the control module do not match the physical hardware build of the tractor. This typically occurs if a module loses its memory, is replaced without being properly programmed, or if a new hardware component (like a grid heater) is installed but the module's software isn't updated to recognize it.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series
- Case IH Steiger AFS Connect series
- Case IH Rowtrac AFS Connect series
Check the cause
Hardware Audit: Verify if any new hardware or accessories (such as a grid heater or auxiliary valves) were recently installed or removed from the tractor.
Module History: Check if the UCM/VCM was recently replaced. A blank or improperly flashed replacement module will trigger this code until the specific unit configuration (UC) and engine configuration (EC) parameters are set.
Communication Check: Ensure the Electronic Service Tool (EST) can communicate properly with the UCM/VCM over the CAN bus to rule out a wiring issue preventing the module from reading the network.
Repair steps
Connect EST
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the tractor's diagnostic connector.
Turn ignition ON
Turn the ignition key to the ON position to power the modules.
Open EST software
Open the EST software and navigate to the programming and configuration window for the Universal Control Module (UCM/VCM).
Review configuration
Review the current configuration parameters and compare them to the tractor's actual physical build.
Modify settings
Modify the incorrect configuration settings. For example, if a specific component was added to the tractor, locate its corresponding line item in the EST and change the setting to 'Installed'.
Save configuration
Save the new configuration settings to the UCM/VCM.
Restart tractor
Restart the tractor (cycle the ignition key) to apply the changes and initialize the module.
Test operation
Test the operation of the tractor and verify via the EST or the AFS Pro display that the 520241-02 fault code has cleared.
Parts you might need
(1)Universal Control Module (UCM) / Vehicle Control Module (VCM)
Only required if the module has suffered an internal memory failure (EEPROM failure) and cannot retain its configuration after being programmed via the EST.
