Case IH 520242-02 - VCM – VCM: Incorrect controller configuration
Issue description
The control module has detected that its programmed software parameters, calibration data, or network source address do not match the physical hardware or the expected vehicle options. This can also indicate irregular data from the CAN-3 bus or a spoofed ECU source address.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum 400 AFS Connect
Check the cause
Check the CAN-3 wiring harness and terminating resistors for shorts, opens, or corrosion
Check the module's internal backup battery voltage and main power feeds for severe voltage drops or shorts
Use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify the current software payload on the VCM and check for corruption
Determine if the VCM, UCM, or PCM was recently replaced without being properly programmed to the tractor's VIN
Repair steps
Connect Diagnostic Tool
Connect the CNH EST (Electronic Service Tool) to the tractor's diagnostic port.
Read and Save Codes
Pull all active and stored fault codes. Look for accompanying CAN communication errors or voltage faults that might have caused the configuration loss.
Reconfigure the Module
Navigate to the programming/configuration menu in the EST. Download the correct 'As-Built' vehicle configuration payload from the CNH eTIM server using the tractor's exact PIN/VIN. Flash/upload the configuration file to the VCM.
Perform Calibrations
Once the VCM accepts the configuration, perform any required subsystem calibrations (e.g., steering valves, transmission engagement points) that may have been wiped.
Clear and Retest
Clear the fault codes, cycle the ignition key, and operate the tractor to verify the code 520242-02 does not return.
Module Replacement (If Necessary)
If the VCM refuses to accept the configuration file, drops the configuration immediately after a key cycle, or has an internal hardware failure, the module itself must be replaced and the programming procedure repeated.
Parts you might need
(1)Vehicle Control Module (VCM) / User Control Module (UCM)
Specific part numbers are highly dependent on the exact Magnum AFS Connect model year and PIN/VIN. If a replacement VCM is ordered, it will arrive 'blank' and must be programmed by an authorized dealer using the CNH EST software before the tractor will operate.
