Case IH 520245-14 - VCM – VCM: Incorrect controller configuration

The control module's software configuration is invalid, corrupted, or does not match the vehicle's expected parameters. This can also indicate an internal failure in the steering valve controller.

• Case IH Magnum Series (e.g., AFS Connect Magnum 180, 200, 220, 250, 280, 310, 340, 380 Tier 4B)
• Case IH Axial-Flow Combines (e.g., 5130–9250 series)

   Verify the CAN bus wiring and connections to the VCM/UCM for communication timeouts or voltage drops.

   Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check the current software version and configuration status of the controller.

   Look for other active codes related to battery voltage or CAN timeouts, which must be resolved before the controller can be successfully reconfigured.

   Re-configure the Module

   Connect the Case IH EST and attempt to push the correct configuration payload to the VCM/UCM.

   Flash/Update Software

   If the configuration fails, re-flash the controller with the latest OEM software. For example, on AFS Connect Magnums, this involves updating the Universal Control Module (UCM) or Steering Valve Controller (SVC) software.

   Module Replacement

   If the module refuses to accept the configuration or the EST determines an internal hardware failure (as indicated by the FMI 14 internal failure sub-status), the Steering Valve Control Module assembly must be physically replaced.

   Calibration

   After replacing the valve/module, perform a full steering calibration procedure using the EST to ensure the new controller is correctly configured to the tractor's CAN network.
