Case IH 520247-25 - VCM – VCM: Auxiliary steering device cross-check failure

The steering controller detects a severe disagreement between the primary and redundant signals coming from an auxiliary steering input device (such as a cab joystick or mini-steering wheel). This is triggered by transmit rate deviation, joystick trim signal deviation, or mismatched EEPROM parameter settings.

   Verify that the steering controller parameters (P3388 and P3389) are correctly configured for the specific type of auxiliary joystick installed using the Electronic Service Tool

   Monitor the CAN bus data for the auxiliary steering device to check the transmit rates and trim values of both the primary and redundant signals

   Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness and connectors between the auxiliary steering device and the PVED-CLS controller for corrosion, loose pins, or chafing

   Verify that the auxiliary steering device is receiving stable power and ground

   Confirm the auxiliary steering device parameters match the physical hardware.

   If the parameters were corrupted or incorrectly set during a previous update, reconfigure them and download the parameters to the controller.

   Physically inspect the wiring harness from the armrest joystick/mini-wheel down to the steering valve controller.

   If parameters are correct, physically inspect the wiring harness. Repair any damaged CAN lines.

   Replace the auxiliary steering joystick or mini-steering wheel assembly.

   If the wiring is intact and the parameters are correct, the internal redundant sensors inside the auxiliary steering device have failed and are outputting conflicting data. Remove the armrest trim panels and replace the auxiliary steering joystick or mini-steering wheel assembly.

   Perform the required steering device calibration routines.

   Once the new device is installed, use the service tool to perform the required steering device calibration routines (setting the center/trim positions).

   Clear the fault codes and perform a test drive.

   Clear the fault codes and perform a test drive to verify the closed-loop auxiliary steering engages without throwing the cross-check failure.
