Case IH 520368-02 - PCM – PCM: CAN-1 data erratic, intermittent or incorrect
Issue description
The module is detecting unstable, missing, or corrupted data communication on the CAN-1 network bus.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect (e.g., Magnum 400)
- Steiger / Quadtrac AFS Connect
- Optum AFS Connect
- Puma AFS Connect (models 185 and above)
- Axial-Flow Combines (160, 250, 260, and AF Series)
- Patriot 50 Series Sprayers
- Austoft 9000 Series Sugar Cane Harvesters
Check the cause
Access the 'Faults and Warnings' menu on the AFS Pro 1200 monitor to determine if the code is currently 'Active' or 'Inactive'
Clear the inactive fault codes to see if the error returns, as it may have been a temporary communication glitch
Inspect the CAN-1 network connections routing to the PCM (such as connector X-017 CAN 1 or X-105 CAN1 to the C Pillar) for physical damage or loose pins
Verify the diagnostic connector (Type 2 green connector for CAN 500 Kbps on AFS Connect models) to ensure proper communication with the Electronic Service Tool (EST)
Repair steps
Check the AFS Pro 1200 display and clear the code if it is inactive.
If the code remains active, physically inspect the CAN-1 wiring harness and connectors routing to the PCM.
Repair any damaged wiring, corrosion, or loose connections found in the CAN-1 lines.
If the wiring is fully intact and the fault persists, the PCM module itself has likely failed internally and requires replacement.
Install the replacement PCM.
Ensure the EST (Electronic Service Tool) is updated with the latest software/firmware to properly configure and activate the new telematics module.
