520433-03 - BCM

Case IH 520433-03 - BCM – BCM: Rotating beacon status indicator - short circuit to B+

Issue description

The controller is detecting battery voltage on the beacon indicator circuit when it should not be present, indicating a wiring short or an internal component failure.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Optum AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Check Fuse F-013 (10A, Mini, Red) in the fuse panel.

  2. Perform a diagnostic output test on the AFS display by toggling the rotating beacon system ON and OFF to see if the BCM registers the command.

  3. Disconnect the rotating beacon connectors at the roof/pole mount and measure for 12V across the terminals to check for constant voltage presence.

  4. Inspect the wiring harness between the right-hand console switch, the BCM, and the beacon light for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery ground to prevent further electrical damage during testing.

  2. Inspect and Replace Fuses

Check fuse F-013. If it is blown, do not simply replace it until the short is found, as it will likely blow again.

  3. Isolate the Switch

Remove the right-hand console panel to access the rotating beacon switch (Position A = ON, Position B = OFF). Disconnect the switch and check for continuity across the switch terminals to ensure it hasn't failed internally and shorted closed.

  4. Trace the Short

Using a multimeter, test the signal wire running from the BCM to the beacon switch/indicator for continuity to a power source (B+).

  5. Repair Wiring

If a short to battery voltage is found in the harness (often where wires route up the cab pillars to the roof), repair the damaged section of the wire and apply heat-shrink tubing.

  6. Test the BCM

If the wiring harness and switch test perfectly fine, the short to B+ may be an internal failure of the Body Control Module itself. (Note: BCM replacement requires dealer programming).

  7. Reassemble and Clear Codes

Reconnect all components, restore battery power, clear the fault code via the diagnostic menu, and test the beacon operation.
