Case IH 520433-05 - BCM – BCM: Rotating beacon status indicator - open circuit

The Body Control Module has detected an interruption in the electrical flow (open circuit) to the rotating beacon circuit. When the operator activates the beacon switch, the BCM expects to see a specific current draw. If the circuit is broken, a connector is unplugged, or the bulb is completely burnt out, the current drops to zero, triggering this "-05" (Current Below Normal or Open Circuit) fault.

   Check the rotating beacon bulb or LED for a burnt-out filament or failure

   Inspect the flexible DIN pole mount contacts for severe corrosion or dirt

   Check the cab/lighting fuse box for a blown beacon fuse (often F-011) and test the beacon relay (often K-011)

   Test wiring harness continuity between the beacon socket and the BCM output, looking for pinched wires or damaged grounds

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor key switch and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent short circuits during testing.

   Inspect and Clean the Mount

   Unscrew the wingnut or thumb wheel securing the rotating beacon to its mounting pole. Pull the beacon off. Clean the contact points inside the pole and on the bottom of the beacon with electrical contact cleaner.

   Test/Replace the Beacon

   If it is a halogen beacon, open the amber lens and inspect the H1 12V 55W bulb. Replace it if the filament is broken. If it is an LED beacon, supply direct 12V power to the beacon's pins. If it does not light up, the internal circuitry has failed and the whole beacon assembly must be replaced.

   Relay/Fuse Replacement

   If the beacon works on direct power, check the fuse panel. Replace the beacon fuse if blown. Swap the beacon relay with an identical relay in the panel (e.g., a work light relay) to see if the fault clears.

   Harness Repair

   If the fuse, relay, and beacon are all good, trace the wiring harness from the roof mount down the cab pillar to the BCM. Repair any broken wires using weather-sealed butt connectors.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and activate the rotating beacon switch. Verify the beacon operates and use the AFS Pro monitor or a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive 520433-05 code.
