520437-14 - BCM

Case IH 520437-14 - BCM – BCM: Field light memory 1 recall switch - invalid input voltage

Issue description

The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the Field Light Memory 1 switch circuit that falls outside the expected operating parameters (e.g., not a clean 0V or 12V/5V signal). This typically points to a faulty switch, a damaged wire, or a poor connection causing out-of-bounds analog resistance/voltage readings.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect series (e.g., Magnum 180, 310, 400 AFS Connect)
  • Case IH Steiger AFS Connect series (e.g., Steiger 425 AFS Connect)

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the Field Light Memory 1 Recall Switch to the BCM for pinched wires, chafing, or exposed copper.

  2. Use a multimeter to check the switch circuit for a short to ground, a short to battery power (B+), or an open circuit.

  3. Test the switch for proper resistance and continuity when pressed and released.

  4. Check the BCM connectors and the switch panel connectors for corrosion, moisture ingress, or loose/backed-out pins.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the machine and disconnect the electronic battery cut-off switch or the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Switch Panel

Carefully pry or unbolt the trim to access the lighting control switch panel inside the cab (typically located on the A-pillar or the right-hand console depending on the exact cab configuration).

  3. Inspect and Isolate

Disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the switch panel. Inspect the pins for damage.

  4. Replace the Component

If the wiring tests good but the switch is outputting an invalid voltage, remove the faulty switch or the integrated switch panel assembly and install the replacement OEM part.

  5. Reassemble

Reconnect the wiring harness and snap/bolt the switch panel back into the cab trim.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery power. Turn the key on and use the AFS Pro 1200 monitor or an electronic service tool to clear the inactive 520437-14 fault code from the BCM.

  7. Verify Operation

Actuate the Field Light Memory 1 recall switch to ensure the work lights turn on according to the saved memory preset and that the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Panel Control Switch / Field Light Memory Switch

    48177948

Control Switch Panel assembly, confirmed fitment for Magnum 180 AFS Connect and Steiger 425 AFS Connect.

  • Light switch assembly (non-AFS Connect)

    84177624

Older Magnum generations used different light switch assemblies, so always verify the part number against your specific machine's PIN.
