Case IH 520440-03 - BCM – BCM: Field light memory 2 recall indicator - short circuit to B+
Issue description
The circuit responsible for the "Field light memory 2 recall indicator" is experiencing a short circuit to battery positive (B+). This means voltage is reaching the indicator circuit where it shouldn't be, likely due to a wiring fault or internal module failure.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum AFS Connect Series
- Magnum 400 AFS Connect
- Model 250
- Model 280
- Model 310
- Model 340
- Model 380
Check the cause
Perform a function test of the exterior lighting and field light memory switches to see if the BCM is communicating properly with the rest of the network.
Perform a full OBD / System Scan to check for other related communication codes (such as U0140 - Lost Communication with Body Control Module) to rule out a broader network failure.
Visually inspect the BCM and its connectors for liquid spills, leaks, physical vibration damage, or corrosion.
Use a multimeter on the field light memory 2 indicator circuit to verify the presence of the short to B+. Check for faulty wiring or excessive electrical loads caused by aftermarket accessories.
Repair steps
Isolate the circuit
Disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage.
Inspect the wiring harness
Trace the wiring from the field light memory 2 switch/indicator back to the BCM. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses that could cause the wire to short to a constant power source (B+).
Check connectors
Disconnect the BCM harness and inspect the pins. Clean any corrosion and ensure no pins are bent or bridging.
Repair wiring
If a short is found in the harness, splice and repair the damaged section of the wire using appropriate weather-sealed connectors.
Test the module
Reconnect power and test the circuit. If the wiring is completely intact but the short to B+ remains active, the BCM has likely suffered an internal failure and will need to be replaced or remanufactured.
