520440-06 - BCM

Case IH 520440-06 - BCM – BCM (Body Control Module): Field light memory 2 recall indicator - short circuit to ground

Issue description

This fault code indicates that the Body Control Module (BCM) has detected a short circuit to ground on the circuit responsible for the 'Field Light Memory 2' recall indicator. This means the voltage on this specific indicator circuit has dropped below the acceptable threshold or the current draw is excessive because the electrical path is bypassing the intended load and going directly to the chassis ground. This is typically caused by a chafed wire touching the frame or an internal short within the switch/indicator assembly itself.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Magnum AFS Connect series
  • Magnum 380
  • Magnum 400 AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the BCM to the cab's field light switch panel. Look for pinched wires, chafing against metal brackets, or melted insulation.

  2. Disconnect the connector at the Field Light Memory 2 switch/indicator to isolate the component.

  3. With the switch disconnected, use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the indicator signal wire. If continuity to ground is still present, the short is located within the wiring harness between the BCM and the switch.

  4. If the short to ground disappears when unplugged, the switch/indicator assembly has failed internally and is causing the short.

  5. Inspect the BCM harness connectors for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging the indicator circuit to a ground pin.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Access the Components

Remove the necessary cab trim panels to access the rear of the field light switch assembly and the BCM.

  3. Repair the Harness (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks isolated the fault to the wiring harness, locate the exact point of the chafe. Cut out the damaged section of wire, splice in a new section using environmentally sealed crimp connectors, and cover with heat-shrink tubing. Secure the harness away from sharp edges using zip ties.

  4. Replace the Switch (If Applicable)

If the switch/indicator was internally shorted, unclip the faulty switch from the console panel and snap the replacement switch into place. Reconnect the harness.

  5. Reassembly and Testing

Reinstall all cab trim panels. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on, clear the inactive fault codes using your diagnostic tool, and test the Field Light Memory 2 function to verify the indicator illuminates properly and the code does not return.
