Case IH 520442-03 - BCM – BCM: Roof mounted headlamp high beam left - short circuit to B+

A "Short circuit to B+" indicates an electrical fault where a specific wire or component is receiving a direct, unintended connection to battery positive voltage (B+) when it should not be. In this scenario, the circuit controlling the left roof-mounted high beam headlamp is receiving constant power, which typically points to a wiring harness issue, a damaged connector, or an internal short within a module.

   Determine if the fault code is static (currently present) or intermittent via a pre-scan

   Verify the battery condition, as weak or failing batteries can cause spurious electrical faults across modules

   Inspect the wiring harness between the BCM and the left roof-mounted headlamp for physical damage, chafing against the chassis, or rodent damage

   Check the electrical plug connections at both the headlamp assembly and the BCM for loose pins, water intrusion, or corrosion

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage during testing.

   Isolate the Circuit

   Disconnect the wiring harness plug at the left roof-mounted high beam headlamp and the corresponding output connector at the BCM.

   Test for Short to Voltage

   Using a multimeter, test the headlamp supply wire for continuity to a 12V power source. If voltage is present on the wire when the BCM is disconnected, the wiring harness is shorted to another power wire and must be repaired or replaced.

   If the wiring tests good, the short may be internal to the headlamp assembly itself (especially if it is an LED module with internal circuitry).

   If both the wiring and the headlamp are functional, the BCM itself may have an internal short on that specific pin output, requiring module replacement.

   Clear Codes

   After repairing the wiring or replacing the faulty component, reconnect all plugs, restore battery power, and use an Electronic Service Tool to clear the fault memory and test the high beam operation.
