520443-00 - BCM

Case IH 520443-00 - BCM – BCM: Roof mounted headlamp high beam right - too many loads or faulty load.

Issue description

The system has detected that the electrical current draw on the circuit for the right-side roof-mounted high beam headlamp is exceeding the maximum expected threshold. This typically indicates a "faulty load" such as an internal short circuit within the headlamp assembly itself, a short to power in the wiring harness, or the installation of an aftermarket bulb/light bar that draws more amperage than the circuit is designed to handle.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Case IH Magnum AFS Connect Series
  • Case IH Steiger AFS Connect Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the front-right roof-mounted headlamp for physical damage, cracked lenses, or water ingress, which commonly causes internal shorting.

  2. Verify that no unauthorized aftermarket lighting (incorrect bulb wattage or high-draw LED bar) has been spliced into the right roof high beam circuit.

  3. Disconnect the right roof headlamp assembly, turn the machine on, and activate the high beams. Check the AFS Pro 1200 display to see if the code changes to 520443-06 (Open Circuit), which isolates the fault to an internal short in the headlamp.

  4. If the code remains 520443-00 with the light unplugged, trace the cab roof harness back to the BCM and look for pinched wires, chafing against the cab frame, or melted insulation causing a short to power or ground.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and turn off the main battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical spikes to the BCM.

  2. Access the Roof Harness

Safely access the front right side of the cab roof. You may need to remove the outer roof bezel or trim depending on the exact Magnum/Steiger cab configuration.

  3. Replace the Headlamp (If faulty)

Unplug the weather-pack connector from the rear of the headlamp. Remove the retaining bolts/screws holding the headlamp bracket to the roof housing. Install the new OEM headlamp assembly and secure the hardware.

  4. Repair the Harness (If faulty)

If the diagnostic checks pointed to a harness short, locate the damaged section of the roof harness. Cut out the damaged wire and splice in a new section using OEM-approved environmentally sealed crimp connectors and heat shrink.

  5. Reassembly and Clearing

Reconnect the headlamp. Turn on the battery disconnect and power up the tractor. Use the AFS Pro display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive BCM fault codes. Test the high beams to ensure the code does not return.
