Case IH 520446-05 - BCM – BCM: Roof mounted headlamp low beam right - open circuit
Issue description
The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit for the right-side roof-mounted low beam headlamp. An "open circuit" means that electrical current cannot flow, which is typically caused by a burnt-out bulb, a disconnected plug, or a severed wire.
Applies to these machines
2 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Steiger AFS Connect
Check the cause
Bulb/LED Check: Inspect the right roof-mounted low beam headlamp. Test the bulb or LED module for internal continuity to see if it has simply burnt out (the most common cause of an open circuit).
Connector Inspection: Disconnect the headlamp and inspect the electrical connector for loose, pushed-out, or heavily corroded pins that could be breaking the connection.
Harness Continuity Test: Use a multimeter to check the wiring harness for continuity between the BCM output pin and the headlamp connector to locate any wire breaks or pinch points.
BCM Output Test: Check the BCM output pin to ensure it is actually sending voltage when the low beam is commanded on. If there is no voltage leaving the BCM, the module's internal driver may have failed.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.
Safely access the right-side roof-mounted headlamp assembly on the cab roof.
Disconnect the wiring pigtail from the headlamp.
Test the headlamp bulb/module.
If it tests open (infinite resistance), replace the bulb or the sealed LED assembly.
If the bulb is good, trace the wiring harness from the roof down to the BCM.
Look for areas where the harness may have chafed against the cab frame.
Repair any broken wires using weather-sealed crimp connectors or replace the damaged harness section.
Clean the connector pins with contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease to prevent future moisture intrusion.
Reconnect the headlamp, restore battery power, and turn on the tractor.
Clear the inactive fault code from the BCM via the AFS Pro monitor or diagnostic tool.
Turn on the low beams to verify the right roof headlamp illuminates and the code does not return.
