Case IH 520526-05 - ITBV – Trailer Brake Control Module: ITBV Outlet Valve - Current Below Normal or Open Circuit

The controller has detected an open circuit or abnormally low current on the ITBV outlet valve solenoid circuit.

   Perform a solenoid resistance test on the ITBV modulator valve (should read 4.0 to 9.0 ohms)

   Perform a harness continuity test at the ECU harness pins with the modulator valve connected (should read 4.0 to 9.0 ohms, within 1 ohm of direct solenoid measurement)

   Check the ECU harness for short or open circuits to battery voltage or ground (should have no continuity)

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical and pneumatic systems.

   Locate the ITBV Assembly

   Locate the Intelligent Trailer Braking Valve block, typically mounted near the rear axle or trailer brake couplers.

   Inspect Connections

   Disconnect the electrical connector to the ITBV outlet valve solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture ingress.

   Test the Solenoid

   Perform the 4.0–9.0 ohm resistance test on the outlet valve. If the multimeter reads "OL" (open line) or a resistance significantly outside this range, the solenoid/valve has failed internally and the ITBV valve assembly must be replaced.

   Inspect the Harness

   If the valve tests within specification, the fault lies in the wiring. Trace the harness from the ITBV valve back to the Trailer Brake Control Module. Look for chafed wires, pinch points, or broken wires. Repair any damaged wiring.

   Reassembly and Clearing

   Reconnect the harness, restore battery power, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 520526-05 fault code. Test the tractor with a trailer to ensure the Intelligent Trailer Braking System engages without throwing the code.
