Case IH 520547-14 - BCM – BCM: Key switch: accessory - invalid input voltage

The control module is detecting an unexpected, out-of-range, or floating voltage signal on the accessory circuit of the ignition key switch. This typically occurs when the switch contacts are worn/corroded (causing high resistance and a voltage drop), or if there is a short-to-power or short-to-ground in the wiring harness between the switch and the module.

   Check battery and system voltage to ensure batteries are fully charged (12.6V+) and voltage is stable, as low voltage can cause false invalid voltage codes.

   Back-probe the accessory circuit wire at the ignition switch. With Key OFF, voltage should be 0V (if voltage is present, the switch is internally shorted).

   With Key ACC/ON, verify voltage matches battery voltage. Significantly lower voltage (5V-8V) indicates corroded switch contacts or high circuit resistance.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the BCM for chafing, pinched wires, or moisture intrusion in the connectors.

   Clear inactive codes via the AFS Pro display or diagnostic tool, cycle the key through all positions, and check if the code returns to Active status.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent short circuits and protect the BCM.

   Access the Switch

   Remove the steering column shroud or the side console trim panel (depending on the specific cab layout of your Magnum/Steiger) to expose the rear of the ignition key switch.

   Disconnect Harness

   Depress the locking tab on the electrical pigtail and unplug the harness from the ignition switch. Inspect the harness terminal for signs of melting or green corrosion.

   Remove the Switch

   Unscrew the retaining nut or bezel on the front of the dash/console that holds the threaded body of the switch in place. Pull the old switch out from the rear.

   Install the New Switch

   Insert the new OEM ignition switch through the mounting hole, align the anti-rotation notch, and tighten the front retaining nut.

   Reconnect and Reassemble

   Plug the electrical connector back into the switch until it clicks. Reinstall the plastic trim panels.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key through OFF, ACC, ON, and START positions. Verify that the accessory electronics power up correctly and that the 520547-14 fault code changes to Inactive and can be cleared.
