520549-14 - BCM

Case IH 520549-14 - BCM – BCM: Field light master off switch - invalid input voltage

Issue description

FMI 14 indicates 'Special Instructions' or 'Analog Input Data Unavailable.' Technically, this means the control module is receiving an out-of-range, missing, or invalid analog voltage signal (often registering as a hexadecimal value of FFh) from the field light master switch circuit.

Applies to these machines

  • MAGNUM AFS Connect
  • Steiger AFS Connect

Check the cause

  1. Check the Field Light Master Off Switch on the cab control panel for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion.

  2. Access the back of the switch and inspect the electrical connector (typically a 10-cavity or 12-cavity connector). Look for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or broken wires.

  3. Using a multimeter, verify that the switch is receiving the correct reference voltage from the BCM and that the ground circuit is intact.

  4. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST). Monitor the live input data for the Field Light Master Switch. If the data shows 'Unavailable' or is stuck at an invalid voltage range regardless of switch position, the switch has likely failed internally or there is an open circuit in the harness.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the BCM circuits.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the interior cab trim panel/armrest console housing the Field Light Master Switch.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the switch.

  4. Harness Repair (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged connector or wire, replace the damaged terminal or the connector housing itself.

  5. Replace the Switch

If the wiring is sound, depress the retaining tabs on the faulty switch to remove it from the bezel. Snap the new OEM switch into place.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical connector to the new switch and reinstall the trim panel.

  7. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the IGNITION position, and use the tractor's display monitor or EST diagnostic tool to clear the previously active BCM fault codes.

  8. Test

Toggle the field light master switch to verify proper operation and ensure the fault code does not return.
