Case IH 520551-03 - BCM – BCM: Right extended arm turn indicator - Voltage Above Normal, or Shorted to High Source
Issue description
The system has detected that the circuit for the right extended arm turn indicator is shorted to a positive voltage source (B+). This means the circuit is receiving 12V power when it shouldn't be, or there is zero resistance to the power side.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- MAGNUM AFS Connect
- Magnum series
- Magnum 220 AFS Connect
Check the cause
Visually inspect the right extended arm turn indicator lamp assembly for physical damage, water intrusion, or melted contacts.
Disconnect the 2-pin electrical connector at the right extended arm turn lamp. Turn the key ON and check if the fault code status changes from 'Active' to 'Inactive' or 'Open Circuit'. If it does, the short is internal to the lamp assembly.
Inspect the wiring harness running along the extended arm and cab. Look for pinched, chafed, or exposed wires touching a 12V source.
With the turn signal switched off, use a multimeter to measure voltage on the signal wire at the lamp connector. If 12V is present, trace the harness back to the BCM to locate where the short to B+ is occurring.
Check the BCM connector pins for corrosion, water ingress, or bent pins that could be bridging a power circuit to the turn signal circuit.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent further electrical damage.
Replace lamp assembly
If the lamp is internally shorted: Unbolt the damaged right extended arm turn lamp assembly from the arm bracket and install a new lamp assembly.
Repair wiring or replace connector
If the wiring/connector is damaged: Cut away the damaged section of the wiring harness. If the connector is melted, splice in a new 2-pin pigtail connector using solder and marine-grade heat shrink tubing.
Repair chafed harness
If the harness is chafed: Repair the chafed wire, wrap it in electrical tape, and secure it with zip ties or wire loom to prevent it from rubbing against the tractor frame or arm mechanism.
Reconnect battery
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Test turn signal
Turn the key to the ON position and test the right turn signal to ensure it flashes normally without hyper-flashing or throwing an error.
Clear fault codes
Clear the inactive fault codes using the AFS Pro display or your diagnostic tool.
